À propos EduSA

English South Africa (ESA), formerly known as Education South Africa (EduSA), is the national association of quality language centres in South Africa. The organization is committed to developing and guiding the growth of the English language travel industry in South Africa and ensuring that its members meet or exceed guaranteed minimum standards of professionalism and quality.

The association has evolved over two decades, starting as ELTASA (English Language Travel Association of South Africa) in 2003 with 9 founding members, then becoming EduSA in 2009, and finally rebranding as English South Africa (ESA) in 2023. ESA became the trusted voice, the quality assurer and stamp of approval for all South African EFL schools.

Over the past two decades, South Africa has consistently featured as part of the global EFL industry and has become an extremely popular destination for Language Travellers, with a noticeable increase in English Language Centres offering services to students from all over the world.

Conditions d'adhésion

All ESA centres must agree to undergo the ESA On-Site Language Centre Inspection and maintain the standards stipulated therein. Language Centres must pass the inspection to qualify for membership. Inspection criteria include:

1. Language Centre Facilities:

  • Adequate classrooms
  • Proper toilet facilities
  • Appropriate common areas
  • Teachers' room
  • Safety and regulatory requirements compliance

2. Teaching Staff:

  • Proper recruitment procedures
  • Minimum standards for teachers
  • Minimum standards for academic manager or Director of Studies
  • In-service training programs

3. Course of Study:

  • Well-structured programmes and syllabuses
  • Appropriate methodology and materials
  • Proper placement and testing procedures
  • Regular evaluation and feedback systems

4. Learning and Teaching Resources:

  • Quality course books and resources
  • Adequate hardware and facilities

5. Services Offered:

  • Student orientation programs
  • Support and counselling services
  • Social programme and tours
  • Safety and security measures

6. Management & Administration:

  • Sound financial administration
  • Proper structure, staffing and employee administration
  • Efficient administration of students
  • Effective academic administration

7. Homestay Guidelines:

  • Quality services provided
  • Proper administration of homestays
  • Compliance with legal obligations

8. Other Accommodation:

  • Standards for residential accommodation, student halls or hostels
  • Hotel accommodation standards including guest houses and B&Bs
  • Self-catering accommodation standards

Procédure de réclamation et d'arbitrage

ESA has established ethical guidelines that include dispute resolution procedures:

  • In the event of a dispute between members, members shall submit to the arbitration of the Executive
  • Should the dispute be between a Member and ESA, the parties will submit to the arbitration of an outside body designated by the Executive
  • Every member shall report in writing any actual or suspected infractions of ESA guidelines to the ESA Executive
  • Members must maintain ethical standards and conduct business in strict accordance with South African and international laws
