À propos YLEUK
Young Learners English UK (YLEUK) is a Special Interest Group of English UK, specifically designed for accredited providers of quality English language courses for Young Learners, defined as children and teenagers aged from 7 to 17 years. YLEUK operates as a specialized division within the broader English UK framework, focusing exclusively on the unique needs and requirements of educational providers serving younger students.
The organization is committed to providing a safe and rewarding language learning experience for students while in the UK, through a commitment to offering the highest standards of welfare, management, and teaching. YLEUK serves as the voice for Junior Course providers to the industry and the market, representing the interests of member organizations at all times.
YLEUK's primary focus is on maintaining and improving standards of safety, welfare, and child protection, in line with UK external advisory bodies including the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children), DCSF (Department for Children, Schools and Families), and NCSL (National College for School Leadership).
Conditions d'adhésion
YLEUK has strict and comprehensive membership criteria that all member organizations must meet and maintain:
Basic Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be accredited by the British Council Accreditation UK Scheme
- Must have passed a British Council inspection during the period of operation for teaching English to under 18s
- Must be current members of English UK
- Must provide English language courses specifically for students aged 7-17 years
Mandatory Staff Qualifications:
- By the end of the first year of membership, one member of staff must hold a current "Advanced safeguarding for designated staff" certificate
- One member of staff must hold a current "Safer Recruitment certificate"
- Certificates must be provided to the YLEUK administrator for record keeping and membership maintenance
- Staff must maintain current certifications throughout membership
Ongoing Participation Requirements:
- Each member school must be represented at least 2 meetings in each subscription year
- One meeting must include the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
- The other meeting can be a focus group or general YL meeting (training days do not count)
- Annual membership fee must be paid by no later than end of January each year
- Members must participate in the Young Learners Yahoo forum for communications
Training and Development:
- YLEUK provides at least 2 free training days per year per member
- Training covers Safer Recruitment and Advanced safeguarding for designated staff
- Specialist safeguarding training for designated leads is also provided
- Members who fail to fulfill training requirements by October receive written warnings

YLEUK operates under a structured governance system with clear procedures for addressing issues and maintaining standards:
Governance Structure:
- Final decisions on major policy agreements rest with the committee
- Members have one equal vote per organization in decisions affecting subscriptions and committee elections
- Committee meetings are held 2-3 times per year plus all main member meetings
Disciplinary Procedures:
- Members must not make any public statements that would bring YLEUK into open conflict with English UK
- Violations are investigated and reported to English UK, whose decision is final
- Members who fail to meet criteria by October receive written warnings
- Membership may not be renewed if requirements are not fulfilled by year-end
- Expelled members cannot rejoin YLEUK until a full calendar year has lapsed
Standards Enforcement:
- Regular monitoring of compliance with British Council criteria for under 18s
- Continuous assessment of standards with aim of constantly improving program quality
- Ethical behavior requirements among members to avoid bringing the group into disrepute
- Prompt and honest responses required for job references
Communication and Support:
- All communications between members conducted via Young Learners Yahoo forum
- Events and meeting minutes updated on the YLEUK website
- Committee represents YLEUK to the British Council and at trade fairs
- Support provided for maintaining compliance with UK and EU legal requirements

- Behave ethically and supportively with other members
- Promote positive impression of YLEUK to the outside world
- Provide honest and prompt replies to job references
